Prof. DevVrat Singh, Professor & Head, Department of Mass Communication

Professor Dev Vrat Singh has been actively engaged in media profession, teaching, training and research for the last 24 years. A professional-turned-academician, Prof. Singh earned his doctorate in Mass Communication with an emphasis on television news in 2005. He studied Radio and Television Journalism at the prestigious Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi. He was actively engaged in television journalism and associated with many national news channels before joining media academics. He started his academic career in 2000 from Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. After that he joined Institute of Mass Communication and Media Technology, Kurukshetra University, Haryana. He taught at Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, Haryana also. Dr. Singh has been an avid media writer. He has authored five books on Electronic Media History, Television Journalism, and Television Content. His 20 research papers have been published in reputed research journals. He has contributed chapters in 12 books and more than 50 articles in various newspapers and magazines. He has written course material for Shimla University and Kota Open University, Rajasthan. He has supervised more than 100 Master Degree and M.Phil. dissertations and two doctorates. At present, six Ph.D. scholars are carrying out research under his guidance. Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Professor (Sr.)

Dr. Rajesh Kumar has been associated with the discipline of media education as a distinguished academician, researcher, administrator and media professional. He is at present ‘Coordinator’ of the Department of Mass Communication and is having more than one and half decades of experience in academia and industry. Dr. Kumar holds PhD in Mass Communication from Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi and has done doctoral research on ‘Mapping Media Education in Universities of Eastern India’. He has produced qualitative publications in SCOPUS and UGC CARE Indexed Journals. Dr. Kumar is a recipient of UGC (NET) in Mass Communication and Journalism and has completed Master and M.Phil. Programs in Mass Communication from Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar and The Global Open University, Dimapur respectively. He has supervised more than 25 Dissertations at Postgraduate level. Dr. Kumar is also an alumnus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi and has been the Editor of multiple publications at university level. Those include: Academia: Faculty Profile of CUJ, Anveshan: Research Profile of CUJ, Journey from Despair to Hope: A Silhouette, CUJian Age, Online Newsletter of Central University of Jharkhand and Editorial Members of Vaagmita: Annual Magazine and Coffee Table Book. He has also contributed more than 30 articles and has prepared layout, design and make up for more than 500 pages in newspapers during his association with the media industry as a Copy Editor/Sub Editor. Dr. Kumar has actively been engaged in Administrative and Extra-curricular activities and has contributed immensely for the development of a newly established university as a Sports In-charge, NCC Officer, NSS Officer In-charge, IQAC Member, Administrative Warden, Proctor In-charge, Warden, Coordinators, Conveners and Members of various cultural, sports, examination and hostel committees. Rashmi Verma, Senior Assistant Professor

Mrs. Rashmi Verma is actively engaged in teaching, training and research in the discipline of Mass Communication for more than one decade. She joined academics in 2010 with Central University. Prior to this, she was associated with print media in Delhi. Mrs. Verma has many cover stories to her credit, she also carried out regular columns and her articles, features were published in various print publications. She has presented programs on All India Radio and has undergone professional training with some print/electronic media houses. As a course teacher, she has conducted some outreach programs for the students and has coordinated field/industry visits. She has been actively engaged in conducting special lectures of media professionals and in organizing placement drive for the students. Recently she has conducted various online/in-person trainings and workshops for media teachers, students, NGO’s, Artisans, Theatre artists, members of Self Help Groups and other community activists on ‘News and Information Literacy’. She has also conducted sessions with children of local community and neighboring schools on ‘Good and Bad Touch’ and ‘Gender Sensitization’.

Dr. Sudarshan Yadav, Assistant Professor

Dr. Yadav holds a PhD (BHU), NET-JRF, MA in Mass Communication, BSc and a Certificate in Disaster Management (IGNOU). He has worked at IBN7 and Mahuaa News. He has eight years of teaching and research experience. He specializes in the area of Science Communication, Film Studies, Communication Theories and Research and Media Management. Dr. Amrit Kumar, Assistant Professor

Dr. Kumar holds his PhD in Mass Communication on the topic Health Consciousness and Media Perspectives (with special reference to Tribal Society of Jharkhand) from the MGAHV, Wardha (Maharashtra). He also possesses an MPhil in Mass Communication, 2012 on the topic Manrega, Samajik Parivartan and Media (visheshsandarbh - Sitamarhi, Bihar) from the Centre for Communication and Media Studies, MGAHV, Wardha (Maharashtra); His interest areas are development communication, tribal studies, and new media. He has also taught in the Department of Hindi Journalism, S.G.N.D. Khalsa College, University of Delhi, Department of Hindi Journalism, Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, University of Delhi and Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication, Bhopal.
