Television in India-A journey so far

Ranchi, Sep 19: A special talk on ‘Television in India-A journey so far’ was held at the Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) today.

The speakers included deputy director general, Door Darshan, Ranchi Sailesh Pandit as chief guest, group editor of ETV, Hyderabad Rajesh Raina as guest of honour, deputy director, Door Darshan, Ranchi R K Jha and cluster programming head, Big FM and Big Magic, Bihar and Jharkhand Omar Shadab Hashmi.

All the speakers were of the opinion that the TV industry, which had been launched in late 1950s with DD being the pioneer, had undergone a phenomenal growth in such a short span of time.

The ETV group editor made no bone about his concern over the “deterioration” of content in the channels witnessed in the recent past with a view to edging past each other.

He appealed to the students pursuing journalism to develop keen interest in reading newspapers and nurturing a mind to observe things minutely.

Mr Pandit in his speech mainly dwelt on literature explaining how DD gained immense popularity through contribution by the authors, in particular in Hindi language.

Dean of Mass Communication and VC in-charge Prof Santosh K Tewari in his inaugural speech gave a brief summary of the programme, which was attended by deans, faculty members, administrative officers and students.

Assistant Professor Rashmi Verma proposed the vote of thanks.
