Brief introduction:   Dr. Shreya Bhattacharji is Associate Professor in the Department of English Studies, Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi, India. Her academic interests include Postcolonial Studies, especially African, Afro-American, Caribbean, Queer and Women’s Writings, Border and Partition Studies and Contemporary Critical Theories. She has published widely and has been invited to numerous conferences in India as also in the United States, France, Hungary, South Africa and South Korea. Formerly a Civil Services Officer, she also nurtures a keen interest in human rights, tribal and gender issues.

As Conference Coordinator organized a three day International Multidisciplinary Conference on Identity and Cultural Dynamics: Tribes of South Africa, Nigeria and North East India, October 28-30, 2009, at Rajiv Gandhi University, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, India, in collaboration with Sahitya Akademi and ICSSR, New Delhi. The Keynote Address was delivered by Professor A. H. (Annie) Gagiano, Professor Emeritus, Department of English, Stellenbosch University, Cape Town, South Africa. Special Invitees included Professors Charles N. Bwana and Murindwa-Rutanga from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, Makerere University, Uganda. The Valedictory Address was delivered by Professor Jasbir Jain, Professor Emeritus, Rajasthan University and Writer-in-Residence, Sahitya Akademi. Eminent scholars from the Universities of Mysore, Madras, Nagaland, Tezpur, Guwahati as also the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, and Rajiv Gandhi University participated in the deliberations.
NATIONAL CONFERENCES:

As Organizing Secretary and Convener, organized a three day festival Salva Tagore at the Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi, to celebrate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, the legendary poet, philosopher, painter and educationist. The three-day long celebration from 12th - 14th November, 2011, included thought provoking academic sessions, wherein eminent speakers from across the country deliberated on the life, works and vision of Tagore, enthralling cultural performances by internationally renowned artists such as Ms. Tanusree Shankar and Padmashree H. Kanhailal, an exhibition on Tagore and a food festival showcasing cuisine from Bengal and Jharkhand. The dance drama “Valmiki Pratibha” performed by inmates of Presidency Correctional Home, Kolkata, on 13th November, 2011, exemplary of Tagore’s vision of cultural therapy, was an attempt by the University to reach out to those less privileged. The celebrations was preceded by quiz, poetry recitation, painting and street play competitions for the school and college students of Jharkhand, giving them a unique platform to showcase their talents.
