CUJ celebrates International Day of World’s Indigenous People

 

Ranchi, Aug 09, 2017: The Centre for Indigenous Culture Studies, School of Culture, Central University of Jharkhand observed ‘International Day of World’s Indigenous People’ in its Brambe campus on 9th August. A one day seminar on ‘Indigenous Heroes of Jharkhand’ was organized to remember local Heroes like Bhagwan Birsa Munda, Kartik Oraon, Ramdayal Munda, Jaipal Singh, Baba Bhikharam, Poto Pingua, Lako Bodra, Simon Oraon, Sarda Kisku, etc.

The chief guest of inaugural session, Pro-Vice Chancellor, CUJ Prof. Vijoy Kant Das deliberated on importance of culture and ethnic development need. The invited delegate Dr. Joe Hill delivered a talk on ‘Agriculture and Irrigation Development in Jharkhand and Laddakh’. The centre for Indigenous Culture Studies is first of its kind in India to impart knowledge and pursue research on Indigenous people in regional national and global context. Dean Dr Sucheta Sen Chaudhuri highlighted the importance of centre in academic pursuit on tribals of Jharkhand. Around 20 research papers were presented by researchers and seminar was attended by around 60 participants from University.
