National Seminar on India’s Soft Power and Cultural Diplomacy
Ranchi, 11th April 2016:
A two-day national seminar on the theme ‘India’s Soft Power and Cultural Diplomacy’ organised by the Centre for International Relations commences today at Central University of Jharkhand. This seminar is co-sponsored by Maulana Abul Kalam Institute of Asian Studies, Kolkata. The inaugural session started with the opening remarks of Dr. Satish Kumar, Head & Dean, Centre for International Relations and School of Humanities and Social Sciences respectively briefing about the idea of this seminar and relevance of theme.
This was followed by the inaugural address of Prof. Chintamani Mohapatra, Pro Vice Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University. Prof. Mohapatra said though the concept of soft power is very new but it has been in practice since many centuries. From Upanishada to Gandhian philosophy, it is clearly mentioned and you will find it is widespread.

Another speaker Prof. Ashwini K .Mohapatra from Centre for International Studies, JNU in his special address said India has many unique things like yoga, food and spirituality, which can be used as soft power for the purpose of cultural diplomacy.
A keynote address was given by Prof. Arvind Kumar from Manipal University. Among various distinguished speakers, Prof. A. N. Mishra, in-charge Vice Chancellor of Central University of Jharkhand, Mr. K. K. Bhagat, member, Jharkhand Public Service Commission also spoke on this occasion. Dr. Bibhuti Bhushan Biswas, organising secretary proposed vote of thanks.
This two day national seminar will have many technical sessions in which paper will be presented by academician, research scholars from across the country.On this occasion deans of various schools, faculties, research scholars, students from various centres of CUJ were also present in the seminar.
