Antiragging debate held at CUJ

Ranchi, Sept 12: A national seminar on “Eradication of Ragging” was held at the Central University of Jharkhand today.

Eight groups, one each from Central University of Bihar, St Xavier’s College (Ranchi), Ranchi College, Kejriwal Institute of Management and Development Studies, ISM (Pundag) besides three groups from the host university took part in the debate, aimed at sensitizing the students regarding the menace of ragging.

Udita Pal, a student of Integrated Mass Communication from CUJ bagged the first prize speaking against the motion while Shashwat Dutt Mishra of St Xavier’s College, Ranchi topped the list of those for the motion.

Shashi Thakur (KIMDS) was placed second speaking for the motion and Abhishek Nath, ISM , Pundag got the second prize against the motion.

 

Prof Taposh Ghoshal, acting vice chancellor, presented the prizes to the winners and certificates to all participants.

Prof Ghoshal, the chairman of the Anti-Ragging Committee of CUJ, said the CUJ accorded priority to control ragging in the university. The UGC had also sent directive to the educational institutions across the country to spread awareness among the students.

Mr R R Prasad, retired IAS, Prof Manju Bhagat, BIT (Mesra) and Prof A K Sharma, CUJ judged the debate.

 The CUJ’s Anti-Ragging Committee comprises Prof S K Samdarshi, Dr Rabindranath Sarma, Dr Hrishikesh Mahato, Ms Rashmi Verma and Ms Pragyan Pushpanjali (all members).
