Save Water, Save Life: CUJ Observes World Water Week
Ranchi, Mar 15, 2015: The Centre for Water Engineering and Management, Central University of Jharkhand, Brambe, Ranchi is observing World Water Week from March 15, 2015 to March 22, 2015. During this week long programme, the students and faculty members of the University will hold awareness campaign about the conservation and management of water in Ratu, Kanke, Mandar and Itki blocks of Ranchi district to highlight water’s role in sustainable development. .
Today, the students of Centre for Water Engineering and Management brought out a procession in the Brambe village and raised slogans regarding water conservation. They performed skit and nukkarr natak (street-play) in the local language to convey the message about the significance of saving of water for future generation. On the occasion, Prof. A. N. Misra, Acting Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jharkhand urged all to participate in save water and save life initiative to exchange innovative ideas and foster new thinking to manage water-crisis. Dr. Ajai Singh, Head of the Centre, stated the about the importance of adoption of modern water saving technologies and contended that sustainable development can be achieved only through sustainable use of water. Dr. V.K. Tripathi, Assistant Professor of the Centre appreciated the initiatives taken by the students and appealed to the villagers for judicious use of water, and expressed his gratitude towards all the children, women and people present during the program.
Each year, World Water Day is observed on March 22 across the world. The United Nations has declared “Water and Sustainable Development” to be the focal theme for the year 2015.
