Save Water, Save Life: World Water Week ends at CUJ

Ranchi, Mar 22, 2015: One of the foremost water events of the year, World Water Week ended today at the Central University of Jharkhand with an appeal to all for the judicious use of water for sustainable development. Echoing United Nation’s belief that access to safe, clean drinking water is a human right, the Centre for Water Engineering and Management, Central University of Jharkhand, Brambe, Ranchi has  observed World Water Week from March 15, 2015 to March 22, 2015.During this week-long awareness programme,  the students and faculty members of the University organized awareness campaign about the conservation and management of water in Ratu, Kanke, Mandar and Itki blocks of Ranchi district to highlight water’s role in sustainable development. The campaign also witnessed performance to skit and nukkarr natak (street-play) in the local language to convey the message about the significance of saving of water for future generation. Poster and speech competitions too were organized for the students..

On its concluding day, the event witnessed cultural performances related to water conservation by the students of the University. The students also performed a play, Toba Tek Singh, based on the short-story of Manto. Prof. A. Misra, Acting Vice Chancellor, CUJ was the Chief Guest and Er. Sanjay Kumar, Director, Damodar Valley Corporation, Hazaribagh, was the guest of honour. Dr. Ajay Kumar Singh, HOD, CWEM, Mr. V. K, Tripathi and other faculty members of the University were present on the occasion.

Each year, World Water Day is observed on March 22 across the world. The United Nations has declared “Water and Sustainable Development” to be the focal theme for the year 2015.
