AND THE CURTAIN UNFURLS: WORLD THEATRE DAY IN CUJ

Ranchi, Mar 27, 2015: Centre for Performing Arts, Central University of Jharkhand, celebrated World Theatre Day on 27th March 2015. On the occasion, two short stories of Bhism Sahni, “Amritsar Aa Gaya Hai” & “Chief Ki Daawat” were performed by Mohit Mohan and Manish Kumar respectively, the students of Master of Arts (Theatre) at CUJ.  Set in the times of partition, “Amritsar Aa Gaya Hai” narrated a passenger’s tale in riot-struck train and followed the sudden transformation of human nature in the moment of madness.

The other performance “Chief Ki Daawat” showcased a conniving son’s insensitive treatment of his old and widow mother. “At the time when the world is getting increasingly divided and fragmented and exhibits unprecedented loss of human values, we are trying to pose before the society the questions it refuses to ask and give a strong reformative message through theatre,” Mr. Shakir Tasnim, Asst. Professor & the director of the play stated.
