Sardar Patel's Birth Anniversary Celebrated at CUJ
Ranchi, Oct 31: The Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) today celebrated the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in a befitting manner with daylong programme comprising various events.
The programme began with a pledge administered by Dean of Mass Communication Prof S K Tewari followed by march past (by students), run for unity (students and employees), essay writing competition (for students) and debate competition (for students).
Vice chancellor Prof A N Misra recalled the contribution by Sardar Patel with specific reference to the herculean assignment to unify the “disharmonious” farmers during pre-independence era and then challenging task of convincing the princely states of India during the post-Independence period.
Prof Misra said the great leader succeeded in both and proved that we can conquer through unity not violence.
Earlier in the day, about 600 people including large number of students and staff members took part in the march past and run for unity.
Praveen Kumar (IMBA) bagged the first prize in essay competition followed by Abhishek Mohanty (International Relations) and Neharika Singh (Human Resource and Conflict Management).
In the debate section, Shivangee (IMBA) was adjudged the best speaker while Udita Pal (Mass Communication) placed second and Raghavendra Pratap Singh (IMBA) third.
A documentary on Sardar Patel was also screened in the auditorium.
Dean of Business Administration Prof Taposh Ghoshal, who is programme coordinator, proposed the vote of thanks saying the programme was aimed at spreading the message of unity, public safety and security as per UGC guidelines.
Neha Kaur coordinated the prize distribution programme.
