MHRD extends CUJ Vice Chancellor D T Khathing's tenure
Ranchi, Feb 28: The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, has further extended the period of Vice Chancellor of Central University of Jharkhand Prof Darlando T Khathing who completed his first tenure of five years today.
Prof Khathing joined as VC of CUJ on March 1, 2009.
On his fresh tenure being extended for one year, Prof Khathing said there was lot of challenges adding “the CUJ has enough reasons to feel happy at the same time”.
From four centres of studies with about 100 students in 2009, the CUJ at present offers courses at 23 centres to about 1800 students at temporary campus at Brambe.
The permanent campus under construction at Cheri Manatu, is getting readied to be functional at the earliest, the vice chancellor said.
Asked about the slow release of fund for the development of the university, Prof Khathing said everything is expected to be going in full swing after the coming general elections.
The extension of the VC is based on the Section 2 (4) of the Statute (Schedule 2 of the Central University Act, 2009) which states that “The Vice Chancellor shall hold office for term of five years from the date on which he enters upon his office, or until he attains age of seventy years, whichever is earlier…Provided that notwithstanding the expiry of the said period of five years, he shall continue in office until his successor is appointed and enters upon his office”
