Ranchi, May 9: An orientation programme for the Panchayati Raj representatives was today jointly organised by Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ), Jharkhand government and UNICEF

Ten delegates from Jharkhand who had gone to New Delhi later last month to take part in Panchayat Raj Diwas in New Delhi attended the orientation programme in presence of state PRI director S R P Sing, UNICF and CUJ officials.

The rural women shared their experiences during the tour of the national capital. They later discussed about the problems faced by them in implementing the schemes meant for the people belonging to the grassroots lelvel.

Mr Singh listened to their grievances patiently and assured them of all possible help from the government side.

Hindi officer of CUJ Abdul Halim presented a paper “Jharkhand mein panchayatiraj: kitna dur kitna paas” in which he brought home the point that state government and PR institutions must work coherently for success of the concept. Dr Ashok Nimesh of Centre for Human Rights and Conflict Management spoke on “Powers, authority and responsibilities of Panchayats”.

Prof Jeuti Barooah, head of Centre for Traibal and Customary Law of the university gave the welcome speech while Dr D  K Biswal offered the introductory remarks.

Officials from UNICEF and CUJ were also present on the occasion.
