Supreme Court refers case to CUJ

Ranchi, Nov 18: In a major boost to the initiative taken by the Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ), the Supreme Court has requested the varsity desiring an amicable settlement of a legal battle between two parties.

The Apex Court took note of the newly created Centre for Tribal and Customary Law headed by Prof Jeuti Barooah of CUJ and desired the centre’s involvement to the parties arrive at a settlement.

Upon hearing a petition from the State of Jharkhand, Mrs (Justice) Ranjana Prakash Desai and Mr (Justice) Madan B Lokur have made the order for a genuine effort by the petitioners to “approach Prof Barooah to arrive at an amicable settlement.

Prof Barooah said it is a recognition and inspiration to the newly created Centre for tribal and Customary Law of the CUJ by the Apex Court and it could be possible for the “foresightedness of Vice Chancellor Prof Darlando T Khathing who established the Centre for the welfare of the Tribal People, which is first of its kind in the country as whole”
